Event information

The Oxford branch of Love Music Hate Racism follow up their recent popular live music events at The Bullingdon with a one off pop-up evening of experimental contemporary live music. Performances will be by a selection of Oxford based electronic artists, including Means of Production, Octavia Freud, Moogieman, Fleksi, i4M2 and DJ Art Lagun. ELECTRONIC AGAINST HATE takes its inspiration from the recent House Against Hate DJ stage in Trafalgar Square that saw 500,000 people march together in London against the rise of the far-right. Profits from the evening will go towards subsiding coaches from Oxford for people to attend a counter protest against the planned Tommy Robinson far right rally on Saturday 16 May.

MEANS OF PRODUCTION are an Oxford, UK-based electro-video duo known for a ravey electro-primitivism sound. They blend post-punk, techno, acid house bleeps and deadpan vocals with impressive brutalist live visuals. Their latest remix album, 'Ecstacy' features a range of Oxford based DIY electronic artists remixing their album, 'Joy'. Oxfordshire Music Scene magazine review: "Means Of Production’s ‘Joy’ gets a full rework here, with a remix album that leans further into the chaos, intensity and club potential shown by the original. This is a restless, inventive collection that constantly shifts shape. A bold, often brilliant reimagining that thrives in its unpredictability."

OCTAVIA FREUD is a solo vocal electronic producer who creates sardonic, funny, personal and political club bangers. Martin's latest album, 'RLTNSHPS' explores personal histories, different sides of everyday life and his attempt to reconcile creating DIY music with wider existential and political forces. Octavia Freud's latest album has been championed by BBC Introducing and Oxford's Nightshift magazine: "These twelve tracks all deal with relationships, from those with his teenage daughter and his estranged mother, to alcohol, therapy, social media and music itself. This he does with his now trademark mix of pathos and sometimes mordant wit. His dry Mancunian accent a constant over the twelve songs that musically mix up classic synth-pop, Chicago house, techno and funky pop and reminds us at various intervals of Yard Act, Heaven 17, Giorgio Moroder, Underworld and Frankie Knuckles."

MOOGIEMAN takes time off from touring Europe as the synth player for cosmic band Mandrake Handshake to perform his solo project that has been described as psychedelic geek new wave. His retro futurism sound incorporates Italo-disco, analogue synths and kitsch vocal monologues. Like Devo jamming with Suicide on acid, Moogieman creates an unique heartwarming cosmic groove that draws you in to its 80's fist pumping universe.

FLEKSI is a solo electronic artist with a difference. He invites members of the audience to shout out suggestions of music genres, titles and emotions in order to create spontaneous earthy electro grooves that incorporate dubby jams, Arthur Russell style vocals and wonky electronica. Fleksi is a talented funky crowd pleasing improviser who puts a smile on everyone's face.

i4M2 creates glitchy unexpected grooves by using a wide range of vocal samples and broken beats fed into guitar pedals to mangle, loop and remix his sound spontaneously live. His latest release, 'Mind post' has been getting plaudits from national and local music press, including Nightshift Magazine: "It’s an EP of sound collages – electronic beats, either dispassionate and metronomic, or harsh, almost brutish, underpinning anything and everything from tribal chants or backwards vocals to stark, linear synthetics. At its best, as on the title track, it weaves and drives between propulsive industrial soundscaping, the more abstract end of Warp’s output, notably Autechre, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, and Coldcut’s cut-up collages.. a cohesive, if disorientating IDM tapestry to lose your sense of balance in."

DJ ART LAGUN was notably the first DJ in Oxford to play acid house records as its influential sound swept the nation in 1988. He has been at the forefront of the local DJ scene since, whether that is playing at Riverside Festival, Jericho Tavern or house parties across the city. His record collection has recently expanded with a record buying trip to New York so expect an eclectic mix of early house records, electro and modern bangers to warm up the crowd and keep the party vibes going during the night.
