Event information
Pointless Beauty is a Bristol-based project led by bassist and composer Al Swainger, bringing together groove-led repetition, responsive ensemble interplay, and immersive sound-worlds. Featuring Al Swainger on bass and soundscapes with Gary Alesbrook on flugelhorn, Martin Jenkins on keyboards, and Jon Clark on drums, the music moves between reflective stillness and hypnotic motion, balancing structure, atmosphere, and spontaneity without settling into a single genre.
Musically, it draws on influences ranging from Miles Davis and Weather Report to Bowie, Gabriel, Fripp and Prince.
