Event information

Spend a celebratory evening with York's best-established a capella group, The Barberellas, to mark the 75th anniversary of Dartmoor National Park. From folk to jazz, Eva Cassidy to Mama Cass, and their own songs telling the stories of their own connections to nature and community. Five women, five voices - nothing more is needed.

The evening will begin in the garden of St Andrew's Church, just up the road, where the bell ringers will perform some of their favourite peals. We'll have a mic (and possibly a camera!) inside the tower so we can hear direct from the ringers and see what's happening in there!

Dartmoor celebrates 75 years

This year marks 75 years since Dartmoor's official designation as a National Park.

On 30 October 1951 Dartmoor was confirmed with the special status, joining the Peak District, Lake District and Eryri. Eleven more National Parks were established across the UK in the following years.

Long before its official protection, Dartmoor has stood as a cherished landscape; it's a place of wonderful wildlife and powerful geological forces; relentless weather and thousands of years of human activity. To take an expedition across Dartmoor is to walk in the footsteps of those who came long before us.

Looking after this remarkable national landscape's nature, heritage and public access continues to underpin everything we do. We're celebrating this special anniversary with a year of events and activities so people can enjoy the benefits of Dartmoor's places, inspiring action to cherish and care for it in the future.
