Welcome to QUEER LATINO - a fierce and fabulous film programme for Pride 2026 celebrating diverse LGBTQI+ Latin American experiences!
Through stories of migration, identity, memory, desire, and resistance, the selected short films invite you to a dialogue that crosses different territories, themes and cinematic languages, with Queerness as their collective anchor.
From the struggle between indoctrination and personal truth to performance and dance as joyful resistance, this curation of five remarkable shorts weaves a narrative at once segmented and continuous. Together, we will explore the bold, alternative visions for inhabiting the body, resisting oppression and realising family, community and belonging that these wonderful pieces of cinema offer.
We'll also extremely proud to welcome a cohort of very special guests, with the filmmakers Jorge Cadena, Pablo Rivera and María Millán joining us on the night to discuss the themes raised by the films and their creative journeys - with audience participation, as always, fully encouraged!
So come and celebrate Pride in all its kaleidoscopic colours with ZonaSur Cinema Club on June 25th at Common Ground Oxford - from 6pm onwards.
The evening's programme will include:
'Salsa' by Antonina Kerguelén Román — Colombia — 14 min
'Flores del Otro Patio' by Jorge Cadena — Switzerland / Colombia — 15 min
'Elena' by Ayerim Villanueva — Costa Rica — 22 min
'Madres' by Pablo Rivera — Colombia — 10 min
'Trans_CCS' by María Millán — Venezuela — 30 min
ZonaSur happens with support of the BFI Film Audience Network, awarding funds from the National Lottery in order to bring this project to more audiences across the UK. This provides greater visibility for Latin American filmmakers and their work both in the UK and further afield, giving them the opportunity to reach wider audiences and gain more exposure.
ZonaSur Cinema Club takes place monthly at Common Ground Café and co-working space in Oxford, home to Curio Books and Culture. Each edition features film screenings accompanied by a lively, respectful discussion led by invited experts and fully open to the audience.
The aim of ZonaSur is to introduce Oxford audiences, through cinema, to the rich tapestry of Latin American experiences, cultural heritage, social realities, and contemporary challenges. We exist to support the circulation and visibility of Latin American and Caribbean filmmakers and their work, so everyone can benefit from the incredible richness of these often under-represented films.
