An afternoon of experimental music in the warmth and magic of By Our Hands We Make Our Way with:
MARLENE RIBEIRO
Marlene Ribeiro uses an eclectic range of acoustic instruments, field recordings, electronics and her voice, to create an intoxicating blend of psychedelic dreampop.
Marlene released her first album in her own name – the excellent Toquei no Sol – in 2023, via Rocket Recordings. Woven together from recordings made in Ireland, Wales, Portugal, Madeira and Salford, Toquei no Sol is a hypnotic, woozy album – experimental, melodic, meditative, full of wonder and beauty.
Formerly a long-standing member of Manchester noise experimentalists Gnod, Marlene has also collaborated with artists including Thurston Moore, Valentina Magaletti, Charles Hayward and Faust.
“Ribeiro’s music comes from within and inhabits the echoing spaces of the mind, infiltrating a sophisticated and all-encompassing soundscape that cleanses. She takes the sounds around us which we filter out almost all the time and repurposes them to present our reality back to ourselves as truth.” The Quietus

ATHINA B
Helmed by Brighton-based musicians YOU&TH (aka Maria Marzaioli, formerly one-sixth of the magnificent Slum of Legs) and R.Dyer (who performed memorably in support of Haiku Salut last year), Athina B turn found sounds, layered violin, bells, polyrhythms, harps, chants and charms into semi-improvised paeans to time, life and joy.
Named after a Brighton shipwreck and a fragment of a lyric by the aforementioned Slum of Legs, Athina B are a band playing from the liminal spaces - capturing the sounds of twilight, halfway between dream and memory where birds are caught mid-flight, lit by a setting sun.
