Bassist, band leader and co-founder of Tomorrow’s Warriors, Gary Crosby OBE brings together his quintet for a night celebrating the legendary jazz innovator and composer Charles Mingus.

An instantly recognisable figure as he played double bass, Mingus was an imposing physical presence on stage. However, it was his skill as a composer that set him apart, bridging the eras of Ellington and Parker and into the free improvisation of the 1960s. His music continually reflected his venturesome mind, and he left behind a legacy of iconic jazz recordings. For this special celebration, Crosby will lead his quintet through his personal favourite from the Mingus catalogue Mingus Moves alongside other classic compositions.

The band come from the Tomorrows Warriors stable .

Alex Ho was the winner of the UK Critics' Circle Young Artist Award 2021 for his "compelling and individual" works, Alex Ho is a British-Chinese composer whose music and stage works have been described as "insidiously bold" (Opera Magazine), “menacing and poetic" (The Guardian), and "important and impressive" (Opera Today). Alex is resident composer at Glyndebourne Opera (2023-26) and was Artist-in-Residence at Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier (2021-24) and Associate Composer at Oxford International Song Festival (2022-23). His music theatre, Untold, premiered to critical acclaim at Concertgebouw Brugge and O. Festival Rotterdam and won the FEDORA Opera Prize 2023 awarded at the Paris Opera for a "bold and moving creation".

David Kayode is a London-born saxophonist, composer and bandleader whose music sits at the meeting point of Yoruba tradition, Afro-diasporic rhythm and contemporary jazz. Raised between community spaces, jam sessions and cultural hubs across the city, he developed a sound that is both deeply rooted and forward- looking, built on groove, improvisation and storytelling.

A graduate of Tomorrow’s Warriors, David grew inside a lineage that values community as much as virtuosity. Mentorship, collaboration and musical honesty sit at the core of his practice. His playing carries the warmth of highlife, the intensity of spiritual jazz and the dance energy of carnival, all shaped through a distinctly London lens.

Noah Ojumu is a London-based jazz drummer and composer who leads his own quartet, He is definitely one to watch. His original compositions reflect the groove-oriented music he grew up with, merged with his later passion for jazz and the avant-garde, resulting in a vibrant and exploratory sound.
