Event information

Big Flame's unusual politics -- even more relevant today. Max Farrar and Kevin McDonnell have been punting their book about Big Flame and they've received several friendly reviews from politicos of various stripes. In this talk, with slides, the authors will be joined by Jane Storr, who co-wrote the book’s chapter on Women in Big Flame. They will briefly explain Big Flame’s origins and its theory and practice -- unusual in the 1970s and 80s for its full support for feminist and other movements, its commitment to personal, pre-figurative politics, and its refutation of Trotskyism. In the Q&A they will explain how today's politics to the left of Labour might learn from its mistakes.

In previous events, they’ve been enthused by the young people who created a comprehensive exhibition about Big Flame at the Working Class Movement Library in Salford. They were delighted to hear that there is still much that is still relevant about BF’s effort to change the world towards socialism, feminism, free sex choice, ‘race’ equality and radical democracy.
