The story follows Winnie Smith, a low-ranking Party worker who secretly hates the regime and begins to rebel by keeping a diary and starting a forbidden relationship with Julia. In this society, citizens are constantly watched, history is rewritten, language is controlled, and independent thought is treated as a crime.
