Pop music historian Matthew Worley – author of a classic, newly reissued history of the British branch of punk – will be chatting with Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Famer Gary Lachman about that era and about Gary’s extraordinary life. During the late 1970s, he was the bassist in Blondie, a New York City flat-mate of Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, and the composer/lyricist behind the Top Ten hit, “(I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence, Dear.” He’s since reinvented himself as a literary biographer, as well as a writer on philosophy and the occult.
Gary Lachman was a founder member of the pop group Blondie and, in 2006, was inducted into the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Besides being the author of biographies of Aleister Crowley, Rudolf Steiner, C. G. Jung, Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, and Colin Wilson. He has also written books of existentialism and the philosophy of consciousness. His journalism has appeared everywhere from “The Sunday Times” to “Mojo”.
Matthew Worley is Professor of Modern History at the University of Reading. His books include “No Future: Punk, Politics and British Youth Culture, 1976–84” and “Zerox Machine: Punk, Post-Punk and Fanzines, 1976–88”.
