Event information

A celebration of the wonder of our Essex Coast in aid of St James' Church's Warm Welcome Appeal.

Matthew John Harrison's OYSTER LAND is a film that spends time with the oystermen of Mersea Island, Essex and explores the ancient oyster culture of the city of Colchester. It’s an atmospheric journey of working on the waters of an estuary that has sustained a local trade for thousands of years.

REV SIMPKINS, vicar of West Clacton and Jaywick, performs songs inspired by the landscape and history of the East Anglian coast, featuring tunes from his albums Big Sea ('astonishing' 9/10, Vive le Rock) and Saltings ('a triumph' FATEA)

THE WARM WELCOME APPEAL: St James’ Church is much loved as a welcoming and friendly community at the heart of Clacton-on-Sea. But during the cold months, the temperature in our beautiful building can’t match the warmth of our welcome - our ancient boilers struggle to heat the church, and our fuel bills are eye-watering! So we’re running a once-in-a-generation fundraising appeal to put that right once and for all. We want to: • ensure that for decades to come people can enjoy and use our buildings with an efficient, flexible and effective heating system; completely end our reliance on gas (and on unpredictable gas prices); • make our electrical supply as efficient as possible.
