Event information

ICHI, from Nagoya in Japan, is a one-man band who delights audiences of all ages with interactive shows and workshops. In his playful performances, he combines handmade instruments with steel-drum, ping-pong balls, typewriter, toys & everyday objects. It's fun, it's danceable, it's exciting.

‘What on earth is this?! It`s brilliant!’ STEVE LAMACQ

‘Hilarious & bonkers & brilliant!’ LAUREN LAVERNE

ICHI's handmade instruments include the Stilt-bass, Kalilaphone, Balloon-pipes, Hatbox-pedal-drum, Tapumpet, Percussion-shoes & Hattrick-hat. He's often seen with a camera in his hand, or his hands rooting through skips for materials for his musical inventions, or his hands in the earth making human sized interactive earth xylophones, as he did at Bristol's FORAGE FESTIVAL and STARRY SKIES family festival.

ICHI tours extensively in Japan, the UK, Europe, and further afield. He has played at festivals worldwide and been championed by several BBC Radio DJs.

Attendees can book either the workshop and performance together, or just the performance. Under 2s are free, but will need to sit on an adult's lap due to the limited capacity of the venue, unless access needs make that problematic. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Performance (2:30pm - 3:15pm)

A feelgood set of original songs and tunes, characterised by catchy melodies, danceable rhythms and pleasing sensory sounds.

Workshop (3:45 - 4:45)

This workshop is suitable for children aged 7-12 years and their families, carers or guardians.

In the workshop, participants will be invited to create a "bug pipe" and a "wind whistle." These projects are based on ICHI's practice of using found and recycled materials and materials from nature. All the materials for the workshop will be provided.

If you or children you would like to bring have any accessibility needs, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate these. If you require the assistance of a carer to attend this performance, please contact info@ocmevents.org to reserve a free carer ticket.

OCM is supported using public funding by Arts Council England. OCM is a PRS Foundation Talent Development Network Partner supported by PPL. Supported with funding from Oxford City Council. Affiliate Organisation of Oxford Brookes University.
