Event information

The UK is set to regularly exceed temperatures of 40C for longer periods of time by 2050, with 10,000 heat related deaths predicted per year and 9 out of 10 houses likely to overheat (source: The Guardian 20.05.26)

Join Dermot Barnes, Director of Sustainability at City St George’s, University of London to find out how to future-proof yours, as he introduces the Overheating Challenge: what it means for us now and in the years to come, and how we might address it from a policy and practical standpoint.

Dive into passive solutions (green roofs, paints, blinds, shades, trees), the implications of active ones (ventilation, insulation, energy efficient cooling systems) and the necessity for and direction of architectural and design developments.

Dermot will be joined by Aimée Daniels, founder at Shaded London, who will present on one practical external awning product that her company has developed to reduce heat gain through vertical sliding sash windows.

Following the talks will be a Q&A, allowing you to ask our experts all your questions. The evening will finish at 9pm
