Picky New Promotions are proud to bring PETE FIJ to The Lab in Northampton on Sat, Oct 10.

Pete Fij first made his name in the early 1990s as the singer and guitarist of Adorable, the Creation Records band whose acclaimed 1993 album Against Perfection became an indie cult classic. Praised by artists including Noel Gallagher, Slowdive, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Adorable enjoyed chart success and widespread critical recognition before disbanding. Fij later formed Polak with his brother Krzys, earning further praise for his songwriting, with The Independent describing him as “the most gifted lyricist since Jarvis Cocker last put pen to paper.” Following a period away from music, he returned alongside House of Love guitarist Terry Bickers, releasing two highly regarded albums and receiving accolades from BBC 6 Music, MOJO, Uncut and Q. A short-lived Adorable reunion in 2019 saw the band sell out venues larger than those they played during their original run.

Now, after another hiatus and a major personal reset, Pete Fij has returned with a renewed sense of optimism and energy. Drawing on experiences that included working in a care home during the pandemic and as a funeral celebrant, he has embraced a brighter, more uplifting sound that blends his signature dream-pop influences with elements of pop and electronica. Signed to Tip Top Recordings, he is preparing to release his new album, Up's The New Down, in September 2026, preceded by singles including Love's Coming Back, Cuckoo, and Don't Bring Me Sunshine. Throughout it all, his rich baritone voice—often compared to Lee Hazlewood, Lou Reed and Richard Hawley—remains as distinctive and compelling as ever.

Supports are Northampton stalwarts JOY DISPOSAL UNIT, THE GOOD FRIDAYS, and a reunited INGA RAPIDS.
