Picky New Promotions are proud to present co-headliners WINTER GARDENS and OPAL MAG at The Lab in Northampton on Fri, Oct 9.
Winter Gardens craft a striking blend of dream-pop, shoegaze and post-punk, pairing shimmering, reverb-soaked guitars with driving rhythms, melodic basslines and emotionally charged songwriting. Their distinctive self-described “dreampunk” sound balances introspective atmosphere with bursts of raw energy, earning praise from outlets including Notion, which described the band as “a brooding blend of shoegaze, psychedelia and rock,” and Backseat Mafia, who called them “dreamy and delectably melancholic, cinematic yet underground.” Since the release of their acclaimed debut EP Tapestry through Austerity Records, Winter Gardens have received widespread support from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1, VISIONS Magazine, Upset and Punktastic, with singles including “Zigzanny,” “Crystallise” and “Moonjockey” gaining national airplay and helping establish the band as one of the UK underground’s most exciting emerging acts.
Renowned for their immersive live performances, Winter Gardens have shared stages with artists including Echo & The Bunnymen, Gary Numan, Modern English, Piroshka and Pale Blue Eyes, while building a reputation through appearances at The Great Escape, New Colossus Festival, Rockaway Beach and other key festivals across the UK, Europe and the US. Their latest EP, Uncomfortable/Unlovable, attracted praise from BBC Radio 1, Radio X, KEXP, Louder Than War and CLUNK, further expanding the band’s international profile. With a revitalised lineup in place since 2025, a growing catalogue of new material, and a string of European performances under their belt, Winter Gardens continue to gather momentum. Beyond music, their award-winning creative vision has also been recognised, with the self-directed video for “Moonjockey” winning Best Music Video at the Prague International Film Awards.

Co-headlining with Winter Gardens is Brighton-based indie artist OPAL MAG, whose hazy blend of dream-pop, alternative rock and '90s-inspired guitar music draws influence from artists such as Mazzy Star, The Sundays, The Breeders and The Smashing Pumpkins. Her debut EP, Goodbye Lavender, released via Venn Records, showcases evocative songwriting and atmospheric soundscapes across standout singles including “Wasting,” “World End” and “Kiss Me,” exploring themes of love, identity, nostalgia, heartbreak and the search for freedom.
Having already shared stages with Black Honey, Overpass and Phoebe Green, Opal Mag has emerged as one of the UK’s most promising new voices, earning support from NME, Stereogum, Dork, Clash, So Young, The Line of Best Fit, Rough Trade, Rolling Stone UK and Under The Radar, alongside airplay from BBC 6 Music, KEXP and Triple J. With growing critical acclaim and a busy festival schedule, Opal Mag continues to build momentum through her emotionally resonant songwriting and captivating live performances.
