Club Precious returns to one of its favourite haunts, the Waiting Room, for a special night to celebrate the release of THE GREAT LEAP FORWARD's Peel sessions album. (Well, we say it’s Peel sessions – which it is, two of them – but there are also five bonus tracks!)
Rising from the ashes of the legendary bIG*fLAME, The GLF are the vehicle for Alan Brown’s unique agitpop – that means five decades of uncommercial melody, dis-chord, rampant beat, and earnest heart-on-me-sleeve peasant poetry …
Special guests are Peel favourites YEAH YEAH NOH. Originally famed for their sardonic sideswipes such as ‘Bias Binding’ and ‘Cottage Industry’, the Leicester-based troupe soon went more into psych-pop with popular faves such as ‘Another Side to Mrs Quill’. Now they’re back … YYN Mk. 2 are a mix of everything for which front man Derek Hammond is rightly famed. With lots of riffs and tunes. A new EP will be launched at the show.
Then we get to the fantastic noise-pop indie punks WANDERING SUMMER, whose magnificent new single ‘Mother’ is soon to be released as PRENEW 15 on Precious Recordings of London. Former Boyracer alumnus Ged McGurn and his Leeds-based pals follow a path somewhere between his former band’s trademark scratchy punk pop and more woozy Mercury Rev-style tunes. It’s all a bit Flying Nun, a bit Slumberland, a bit hard to explain. So find out for yourself.
