Join The Captain of The Lost Waves and Gabriel Moreno for an exclusive and unique performance from two singular, acclaimed and seasoned songwriters who are joining forces for the first time in St.Leonard's at the Bohemina temple of The Crown House.
Expect poetry, music, vitalism, proto-romanticsm, exquisiye music and songwriting and two very special energetic and immersive styles. Gabriel Moreno will also be joined by the local legend violinist virtuoso Richard Moore.

CAPTAIN OF THE LOST WAVES

The Captain has been described as an ethereal troubadour, a profound storyteller, music philosopher, poet, bard and eccentric free thinking renegade. His musical offerings are inspired by the great songwriters and philosophers of yesteryear.
All is in reverence of the song here, the art is always greater than the artist. Whilst the live performance and repertoire is designed to instigate and infiltrate the unknown depths of the listener, raising more questions than answers both artistically and philosophically. Fronting his compositions with a haunting, range shifting vocal capable of high tremulous falsettos and deep baritone timbres, all expressed primarily on the bouzouki though flanked by much use on the mandolin, guitar and ukulele. With some of his shows he is joined by the wonderful Wendy Ross (Magna Carta) on violin. She began playing violin at age 4, being classically trained, a rapid, high achiever she soon became a protege of one of the North East’s top teachers/violinists, and went on to win festival and music awards. Many years of experience and further training followed, then playing professionally in orchestras, chamber orchestras, theatres, quartets and solo work both at home and abroad.
This is visceral music for the mind and body, full of dreamy verses, life affirming choruses and sheer audacity. Where melodic artistic invention meets in a melting pot of alternative folk, progressive, classical world, baroque chamber orchestral pop and ambient soundscapes.
Previously signed to Voiceprint under his natural guise Shaun T Hunter and Quiet Rebellion he released three critically acclaimed albums, two of which were Borders Book Store’s album of the month. Off the back of this he carried out a residency at the famous 12 Bar Club, London. He was also voted Acoustic Roots performer of the year at the Leeds Independent Music Awards in 2005. He was also voted outstanding songwriter of the year from the Yorkshire Gig Guide Awards 2017.
Making music is a communion to the Captain and much of his work has taken place in a music therapy guise. Playing in secure units, prisons, mental health units and hospitals. The connection is always about the most authentic exchanges between an artist and his audience, based on a shared humanity.
The Captain was chosen by English Folk Expo as just one of 12 English artists to represent team England in the inaugural Global Music Match 2020, an exercise where 96 artists from 14 countries were featured world wide.

GABRIEL MORENO BIO

Gabriel Moreno is Gibraltarian singer-songwriter, currently based in London. An irresistibly engaging performer, he combines a latin exuberance and passion with a rare lyrical calibre (he is also an accomplished poet, with 15 books published to date). Performing on nylon string guitar and accompanied by extremely talented musicians on violin, piano and bass creates a live experience that has been described as ”Taberna Folk” - at once both energetic and intimate, anarchic and absorbing.

He has thrilled audiences across South America, the USA and Europe, including recent sets at UK festivals Wilderness, The Great British Folk Festival and Purbeck Valley Folk Festival, and has been championed by the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Cerys Matthews, with his sonorous baritone and poetical lyrics often seeing him compared to such luminary wordsmiths as Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Bill Callahan.

Moreno’s unique artistic voice lies in the meeting and fusion of different identities. Born and raised in Gibraltar, a British territory bordering southern Spain and just 8 miles from Africa, he has since lived and performed across the world, absorbing influences from music, literature and art everywhere he went. Now considered one of the most compelling and distinctive artists in London's thriving folk and roots scene, he was previously the longtime curator and host of the legendary Lantern Society folk club, and in 2022 was awarded the title of Cultural Ambassador of Gibraltar.

Moreno won the Introducing Stage at the Great British Folk Festival in 2019, and although the Covid-19 pandemic forced a temporary hiatus for many artists, he could never let his creativity stagnate; 2025 sees the release of his 4th album since the start of the pandemic, Nights In The Belly Of Bohemia, with an accompanying packed touring schedule across Europe, as well as a second book of poetry in that time entitled Heart Mortally Wounded by Six Strings.
