Event information

A unique concert experience combining song, narrative and world-class musicianship, Stolen From God shines a light on a history that still echoes today.

Acclaimed songwriter Reg Meuross presents Stolen From God, his powerful and deeply researched song cycle exploring England’s role in the transatlantic trade in enslaved people.

Through original songs, masterful musicianship and live narration written by Meuross, the performance brings history vividly to life. Reg is joined by two exceptional musicians: kora master Mamadou Ndiaye Cissokho and concertina virtuoso Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne, whose thrilling artistry weaves together West African musical traditions and English folk music.

Moving, thought-provoking and ultimately hopeful, Stolen From God invites audiences to reflect on a shared history through music, storytelling and song.

“One of the best folk albums I’ve heard in a long time.” (Americana UK).
“A very powerful album of songs… an important piece of work.” (Mike Norris, Classic Folk).
“…one of the most important albums of the 21st century.” (Mike Davies).
“If ever there was evidence that music can be used to speak truth to power… this album will in time sit as testament to that fact.” (FATEA).
“Ambitious, often unsettling.” (The Guardian).
