What better way to spend a late Summer afternoon than getting down the garage and tinkering with some fabulous vintage motors… The Fallen Leaves, they always go like a dream, featuring Rob from the original Subway Sect on expansively minimal rock and bastard roll guitar, and the other Rob, the perfect effete but acerbic frontman, extolling punk rock for gentlemen virtues to a (cup of) tea.
Add the bounciest, beefiest rhythm section in all of so called trash punk and you have a Sunday drive of Hotrod intensity that also makes you grin ear to ear. Excellent fun.
Talking, as we were, of the original Subway Sect, you’ll recall it was 50 years ago this month the 100 Club held the first ever and actually legendary Punk Festival, and SS were on the bill alongside The Clash, The Damned, The Pistols and more. There are photos of the queue outside where you can see one particular uber cool gal in attendance…no, not Siouxsie Sue, but obviously yeah her too…no, I’m talking about Michelle Brigandage, a while before she got the band together, but there she’s on hand, assimilating her punk ethos! So what a beautiful thing to add Brigandage to the bill this afternoon! Anyone seen Stinky Toys?!
First band The Hornets are on at 2pm so don’t be late. You really don’t wanna miss these chaps…a youthful frontline with some serious senior drums skills at the back, it’s RnB, Beat Music and ‘60s guitar based rock all the way. Briochouce of covers (Kinks, Beatles etc) and some outstanding originals too. Twangsome, toothsome, terrific. .
