Britten's St. Nicolas was completed in 1948 and covers the legendary life of Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, Lycia, in a dramatic sequence of events.
Haydn's Sancti Nicolai is a mass originally written to honour St. Nicholas Day and the Prince of Esterházy.
