The Spice of Life is a Soho landmark, historic music venue and is in the heart of London's West End.

Renowned for having a great live sound The Spice of Life and Substance have worked together for over 18 years to bring the very best new music to the heart of the capital.

The Hackenbackers
The Hackenbackers are a West London based rock ‘n’ roll band (a sort of mash up of 70's style pub-rock, Americana and power pop) that plays catchy original songs, with an unhealthy amount of ear-worms thrown in!


Since forming in early 2023 they’ve performed at some London’s key venues, including The Dublin Castle, Hope & Anchor, Fiddlers Elbow, The Good Mixer and The Spice of Life.


2025 saw them host a regular residency at The Gunnersbury in Chiswick as well as perform at London’s biggest free music festival, The Hanwell Hootie.


The band released the first of two (double a-side) singles last year, featuring songs “Hey Hey “and “Come on World” – “Hey Hey” has subsequently been used on the soundtrack of new Youtube sitcom “Rock Hard Core Fitness”. The follow-up single - “Second” - was released in February this year.
