Event information

Sally Doherty & Paul Kilvington with guest Graham Jones

An evening of songs from South America performed in their original languages of
Portuguese and Spanish.

Fronted by vocalist Sally Doherty and pianist Paul Kilvington. This gig will also feature our
guest Graham Jones on double bass. A fusion of Latin, Jazz and Folk.

Sally’s musical career has led her into numerous genre and collaborative creative and
physical journeys whose influence can sometimes be heard in her performances giving her
approach to Latin American song a fresh and original sound.

She has released 12 albums (self-penned, Folk, Jazz and Latin) and collaborated on many
varied projects which have taken her recording and performing in much of Europe as well as
America, Australia and Scandinavia.

She has performed live on MTV, BBC radio 1, RAI 1 Italian TV and a multitude of European
and USA Radio stations.

Her work as a composer has also resulted in writing and performing for BBC TV, BBC Radio 4
Drama and short films.

Paul Kilvington was the creator and musical director of Latin Jazz outfit Amazonia who
wowed UK Jazz Festival audiences in the 90s. His improvisation skills in a Latin American
framework are simply stunning and often unexpected and surprising. His creative output
has resulted in numerous albums as a composer and performer and also as a producer.

They have performed at Jazz festivals in Manchester, Marlborough, Wigan, Melbourne and
some wonderful venues: Davenham Players Theatre, Chester Theatre, The Sands, The
Cinnamon Club, Scarborough and Leeds Jazz clubs and of course Jazz at the Lescar.

They will be joined by Graham Jones on double bass whose musical projects span Jazz,
Country, Folk, Bluegrass, Cajun and Texmex. Artists he has worked with include Nikki Iles,
Peter King, Dave Cliff, Alan Barnes, John Barnes, Roy Williams. He has performed across
Europe and in many UK stage and screen performances including the Albert Hall and Jools
Holland’s Show.

“faultless intonation and taste from Sally, sounding equally at home in Portuguese,
Spanish and English. This will appeal to a wide spectrum of listeners… not only
technically accomplished but very beautiful” Alan Barnes

“A universal voice sans pareil. Sally stuns for her many afficionados”—Marlborough
Jazz Festival.

“She invests a bossa nova with deep feeling…a command of timing and general
exquisiteness” Manchester Evening News
