One of the UK’s most melodic tenor and soprano sax players, early in his career Pete Hurt was a member of the Graham Collier Band, as well as in the 1970s the 10-piece group Redbrass led by Tony Haynes Since then he has gone on to appear in the bands of Andy Sheppard, George Russell, Kenny Wheeler and Mike Gibbs and the Ken McCarthy Seven, as well as touring and recording with Carla Bley, Billy Cobham and Stan Sulzmann. He’s a member of the Henry Lowther band Still Waters and has been a member of the London Jazz Orchestra for over thirty years. Pete’s writing is a major feature of his small band’s output, including the CD, Umbrellas, as well as Pete’s own big-band recordings, the CD Lost for Words released in 1984 on Spotlite Records and most recently A New Start released on Trio Records label in 2016 to critical acclaim. He is involved with Way Out West a collective of jazz musicians running live jazz at various venues in the South West London area

This is the latest incarnation of the Pete Hurt Quartet featuring the wonderful Alcyona Mick on keyboards, the marvellous Steve Watts on bass and the superb drumming of Jon Scott. The quartet will be playing a selection of original pieces by Pete in addition to numbers by Lee Konitz, Lennie Tristano, Kenny Wheeler and Wayne Shorter, plus the occasional standard
