Event information

The full moon invites us to pause and appreciate beauty, a perfect moment for an afternoon of flute and piano music with Duo Tutti, in our intimate surroundings.

Ruth Molins (flute, alto flute, bass flute) and Alex Wilson (piano) perform classical concerts with a twist: performing well-loved music plus unfamiliar works, with an opportunity to vote to hear a piece again. To include works by Schubert, Piazzolla, Bonis, Jolivet and Ruth Molins.

Ruth and Alex formed Duo Tutti in 2022 with two aims: to focus on new and neglected repertoire, and to make live classical music accessible to all. With a reputation for imaginative programming and engaging performance, they work with the charities Live Music Now, Libraries Unlimited and Vive La Musique, and have given hundreds of performances in concert and community settings across the South West. Released in 2025, their debut album Dances and Dreams — “Full of sparkle, character and precision” (British Flute Society) — includes newly commissioned compositions and artwork, and a piece for bass flute and piano by Ruth Molins.

Ruth Molins studied music and English literature at Cardiff University, graduating with joint honours. Post-degree she continued her flute studies independently, receiving lessons from Anna Noakes, Michael Cox and Susie Hodder-Williams. She is a founding member of Flute Cake and Duo Tutti. She has performed as a soloist with Exeter Symphony Orchestra (Mozart, Flute Concerto and Rutter, Suite Antique) and Dartmouth Orchestra (Reinecke, Flute Concerto) and has been featured on Phonic FM, SoundArt Radio, BBC Radio Devon and BBC Radio 3. Projects have included: Flute@37 a series of intimate concerts given from her music studio and live-streamed performances of Koechlin, Chants du Nectaire connecting with a world-wide audience during the pandemic. Her immersive performance piece ‘Make Room’ toured Devon to critical acclaim. Ruth teaches flute at Exeter School, Kings Ash Academy, Torbay and South Devon Music Centre and privately.

Alex Wilson studied for a music degree at York University, and graduated from the Royal College of Music with an MA (distinction) in piano performance, following studies with Andrew Ball. Alex is a former British Contemporary Piano Competition finalist and Park Lane Group Young Artist, and performs across Britain and Europe as soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. Self-promoted solo concert tours of the forgotten piano music of WW1 and the European traditions associated with Christmas enjoyed large audiences and received critical praise, and he has released CDs championing the music of pianist, rower and war hero F.S.Kelly, in collaboration with composer Sadie Harrison. Alex performs with Trifarious Ensemble and as one half of Duo Tutti with flautist Ruth Molins, with whom he works with Live Music Now and performs family concerts in libraries across the south west. Alex enjoys performing in the south-west with local professional musicians and teaches piano at Colyton Grammar School.
