For our first concert of 2027, we welcome back our good friend Andrew Morley to conduct a wonderfully varied programme full of character and melody.
We open with Holst’s Somerset Rhapsody, a beautiful celebration of English folk music and countryside. Next, we shine a spotlight on Ruth Gipps with her lyrical and expressive Oboe Concerto performed by soloist Nicola Hands, whose playing has been described as ‘penetrating, elegant and wonderfully flexible’.
We finish in spectacular style with Tchaikovsky’s magnificent Suite No. 3, building to its thrilling Theme and Variations in a brilliant display of orchestral invention, energy and melody.
