Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet brings Shakespeare’s famous tragedy vividly to life, with music ranging from tender romance to thrilling drama.

We then turn to celebrated British composer Dani Howard, whose orchestral writing is known for its distinctive character and rhythmic vitality. Trombone soloist Ned Pettitt joins us for Howard's vibrant and virtuosic Trombone Concerto, a work that won the Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Large-Scale Composition.

We finish with Rachmaninov’s magnificent Symphonic Dances, his final major work, filled with sweeping melodies, rhythmic drive and sumptuous orchestral writing.
