This is the first of three Lady Maisery Big Sing weekends in 2027, our signature group singing courses that take place on the hilly outer-edges of Sheffield and also in vibrant Camden Town in London. The course is focused on big group singing, learning some great harmony songs and enjoying ourselves. On this weekend we’ll eat delicious home cooked food, enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings and experience the joy of singing together.

What we’ll be doing

We invite singers of all abilities to stretch themselves, discover something new, gain more confidence and, most importantly, have a lot of fun. We have been running singing weekends and week-long courses over the past decade and they are incredibly popular. With well-being, good food and a friendly approach at the centre of the weekend, participants should expect to sing lots within the safety and big sound of a group. We never ask anyone to sing on their own and aim for everyone (however experienced or not) to get something out of the workshop. Songs are taught by ear, with lyric sheets where needed. The material will be in three part harmony and the songs will either be from our Lady Maisery repertoire or other songs we’re excited to share!

Each singing course is a little different and on our big sings we focusing on the pure joy of singing in a big group! The weekend will include activities such as: thorough physical, breathing and vocal warm ups, learning rounds and simple songs, learning some bigger more complex group songs in glorious three part harmony and having a go at improvisation in an inspiring and supportive atmosphere.

Rough schedule

We’ll meet on Friday night for some informal singing, and we’ll finish with tea and cake at 3.30pm on Sunday. We start at 10am on Saturday and Sunday, and on Saturday night we'll have a banquet together, followed by an 'open-stage' where participants can get up to share a song, a poem, a turn of some kind if they wish - this is always a highlight of the weekend. We will send a more detailed timetable nearer the time of the course

Venue

The venue is the Underbank School Room, a beautiful hall with stunning views of the Loxley valley where we have run many singing courses before. The space is one main hall with a kitchen, and then a garden you can relax in, weather permitting.

Accessibility: Underbank School Room building is all on one level, with one step at the entrance for which there is a ramp when needed, and there is a disabled toilet.

There is a garden around the chapel for use during break times, or whenever anyone wants to step outside.

Pricing

Price: £215 (+ £10.75 booking fee) incl all teaching and food (Sat lunch + dinner, Sunday lunch). You'll need to find your own accommodation.

Please note that this singing weekend will run with the same or similar content as the Late Summer Sing weekend in September 2027 and the Big London Sing in October 2027.

Cancellations

If you should need to cancel your ticket at any time, our policy is that if we can fill the place we can offer you a full refund (we usually have a decent sized waiting list). If it’s not possible to fill the place, we’ll still issue the refund if it’s more than a calendar month before the weekend, a half refund if it’s more than two weeks in advance, but unfortunately we can’t offer a refund if it’s within two weeks of the event and the place can’t be filled. The small Wegottickets commission is not refundable.
