Bass is often treated as something that simply adds more impact. Properly integrated, however, a subwoofer can bring greater scale, space, weight and realism to everything you hear, from the atmosphere surrounding a quiet film scene to the timing and presence of a live recording.

Audio T Portsmouth has teamed up with REL Acoustics for The Missing Dimension, a special two-day event exploring what carefully integrated subwoofers can bring to both Home Cinema and two-channel Hi-Fi.

Two rooms, two very different systems

Each 90-minute session will be divided equally between our two demonstration rooms. You will spend 45 minutes experiencing an impressive REL HT/3D Home Cinema system, followed by 45 minutes with a dedicated two-channel system featuring a stereo pair of REL’s new Planar PL-2 subwoofers.

The Home Cinema system will use REL subwoofers throughout, including the S/850, T/7x and T/9x, together with two HT/1205 MKII subwoofers handling the dedicated LFE channel. Marantz CINEMA 70s and MM7055 amplification will drive a DALI speaker system featuring RUBIKORE 8 and RUBIKORE 6 floorstanding speakers, accompanied by a DALI VOKAL MK2 centre speaker.

In our stereo room, a pair of REL Planar PL-2 subwoofers will be partnered with Acoustic Energy AE1 loudspeakers and a superb Naim system comprising the NSC 222 streaming preamplifier, NAP 250 power amplifier and NPX 300 power supply. Chord Company cabling will be used throughout.

This is not simply about hearing more bass. It is an opportunity to experience how the right subwoofers, properly positioned and carefully matched, can help a system sound more spacious, involving and complete.

Session times

The following sessions will run on both Friday and Saturday:

• 11:30 - 13:00
• 13:30 - 15:00
• 15:30 - 17:00
• 17:30 - 19:00
