Alexander Armstrong, the brilliant comedian, actor and much-loved presenter of the hit game show Pointless, will be live on stage in conversation with the highly acclaimed legendary composer and music arranger John Altman.
Together, they will explore John’s extraordinary career in music, spanning more than 60 years, filled with incredible stories, famous names and plenty of amusing anecdotes.
John’s career has taken him from teaching Michael Caine how to sing, to convincing director John Mackenzie to give Pierce Brosnan his major starring role in a movie — and even, on one memorable occasion, hitting Sir Ridley Scott!
Over the years, John has received numerous awards, including an Emmy for his musical score for RK281, a BAFTA for Hear My Song, a Golden Globe for The Sheltering Sky and Leon and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Monaco International Film Festival.
John has also written an autobiography, Hidden Man: My Many Musical Lives.
As a composer and musical arranger, John has been in demand around the world, composing and arranging the music for more than 50 films and many much-loved television shows, as well as creating the music for more than 4,000 television commercials.
His iconic film work includes composing the thrilling chase through St Petersburg in GoldenEye, as well as producing and orchestrating the beautiful period music for Titanic and Shall We Dance.
At the request of his friend Hans Zimmer, John arranged and conducted the brass for No Time to Die. He is also particularly well known for his long-running collaboration with the hilarious Monty Python team, including The Life of Brian, where he is credited on the iconic song Always Look on the Bright Side of Life as both arranger and whistler!
John has also worked with an extraordinary list of pop and rock legends, including Quincy Jones, David Bowie, Prince, Amy Winehouse and George Michael, to name just a few.
