Clerkenville East-West presents an evening of entrancing and extraordinary music. We have the London launch of the debut album by Brighton-based ethereal folk trio Sairie, from the US - Roger Kunkel + Stoo Odom - formerly of mighty acid/ Paisley/ desert rockers Thin White Rope, and gripping London singer-songwriter Simon Breed.

After releasing a series of captivating singles and EPs since 2020, SAIRIE launch their first full-length album, ‘Beneath the Spreading Tree’. It continues the trio's exploration of early 70’s folk influences, blending otherworldly atmospherics with stripped-back arrangements. In a four star review, The Guardian heralded its "glistening psych-folk...Singer Emma Morton brings an indie-girl chorister’s brightness to this captivating debut album, on songs with hints of darkness that sound ages-old". "80% improvised guitar and bass duo" ROGER KUNKEL & STOO ODOM were members of much lauded Californian rock band Thin White Rope, touring the world, appearing on MTV, and having breakfast and puking with Nirvana. The sound was best described as Johnny Cash meets Black Sabbath...but then there were Duke Ellington and Krautrock influences. Last year saw the two reunite to create the LP 'Here Comes the Space Cow'. Performing together in the UK for the first time since TWR disbanded in 1992, Kunkel & Odom highlight their new EP 'Sniffing Spirits', and promise to sweep you up in a musical maelstrom with just upright bass, guitar, and vocals.

SIMON BREED last appeared at Clerkenville East-West performing at a celebration of the late great David McComb, on what would've been the frontman of The Triffids' 60th birthday - indeed, he toured with the Australian band as guest vocalist at their 2010 and 2016 reunion shows. A unique and intense singer songwriter, Simon presents a set of towering and unsettling new songs.
