This festive season Gareth Davies-Jones makes a welcome return to St Grwsts church.
This is a very special concert on the theme of Advent and Christmas. Music has always been an integral part of the season yet often the carols and songs drift by on a high street wave of over-familiarity that takes away the original potency and impact their writers intended.
So, armed with fresh interpretations, arrangements and melodies, and with a little background on the writers themselves, Gareth hits the road with some of the best known seasonal works. There’ll be some singalongs, some musical surprises, but most of all the intent is to help people listen afresh and re-engage with the wonder and mystery of a season that can feel increasingly distant in busy modern times.
So take some time away from the hustle and bustle to sit back and reflect anew through melody and lyric. The material is mostly drawn from Gareths two Christmas albums “Nine Lessons” and “The Darkest Midnight in December” with new ‘guest’ songs each year. The aim is to enjoy the music, hear the tales, relax in good company and reconnect with a story often
buried too deeply amongst our headlong rush to December 25th.
There will be refreshments in the church including wine in the interval for a small donation.
