Join us for a Halloween Headdress Workshop at the historic Cecil Sharp House, inspired by the ancient Gaelic festival of Samhain and the folklore, traditions and rituals that surround it.

Marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter, Samhain has long been associated with bonfires, feasting and the belief that the boundary between our world and the Otherworld grew thinner. Traditional customs also included dressing up in disguise and going door to door, a practice often linked to the origins of modern Halloween traditions!

Drawing inspiration from an archive of historical Samhain imagery, folklore and otherworldly creatures, we’ll explore these themes to create our own weird, wonderful headdresses and disguises. Think fantastical forms, mysterious beings and creations that embrace the magic of the season.

There will also be a sumptuous all vinyl soundtrack to your time crafting!

Earth Groove events will be joining us to create a perfect soundscape for mask making 🎭 Expect records from across the globe, with lots of soothing instrumental ambient selections, jazz to spark your imagination, traditional folk to get you in the Samhain mood and even some dub to warm your cockles in the autumn weather!
