THU 11 JUNE - GRUMBLING FUR [SUPPORT] HELENA HAMILTON

GRUMBLING FUR
London-based Grumbling Fur (Daniel O'Sullivan & Alexander Tucker) was born out of a day long improvisation session in 2011. The music recorded that day was eventually edited and released as their first album, Furrier. Grumbling Fur returned in 2012 with Alice, a more spacious and pop-oriented outing recorded as part of the Latitudes in-studio series. The duo returned in 2013 with the finely honed and highly electronic Glynnaestra, moving even closer to electro-pop. They continued to weave a blend of abstract experimentalism and Brian Eno-inflected science pop on 2014's Preternaturals.

Grumbling Fur have many reference points, from the paean to Blade Runner on the anthemic “Ballad Of Roy Batty”, to the distant siren song of the ice-cream van on “Cream Pool”, and even slow burning, molten proto-hip hop on “His Moody Face.” Mutant electronic rhythms bubble and pop underneath swathes of strings. Glowing at the centre are the duo’s unmistakable vocal harmonies, which seem almost telepathically entwined.

Their current sound is built up via an eclectic array of instruments, both acoustic and modified, to pulsating electronic sounds. Add to this mix the pair’s entirely modern shamanistic meta-narratives, and the result is a contemporary psychedelic pop delight. Grumbling Fur’s world is an innovative one, where every sound contains its own unique story, and is driven by the overarching melody and harmony.

We are delighted to be bringing Grumbling Fur to Belfast (and indeed Ireland) for the every first time.

“Richly detailed, so you're constantly finding new sounds and curiosities, but not so busy as to draw too much attention away from the trip” – The 405

“Prepare to be enchanted” – The Wire

SUPPORT - HELENA HAMILTON

FRI 12 JUNE - ANDREW WEATHERALL (ROTTERS GOLF CLUB) [ALL NIGHT]

"I'm what you might describe as the classic underachiever. I tread that fine line between
boffin-dom and the grand amateur." Andrew Weatherall, 1997

ANDREW WEATHERALL has always been good for a quote. From the deep, dark days of early acid house to the modern-day Two Lone Swordsmen: if you're looking for an opinion on the largely insipid world of dance music then Andrew's always had that happy knack of cutting straight to the chase; delighting and upsetting in roughly equal measures.

The swaggering original moody DJ; The pop-star producer; Bastion of the underground; One-time (ahem) Balearic figure-head; Electronic experimentalist; Peerless explorer of the minimal techno sound; Arch grumbler; Londoner; Honorary Yorkshireman; All these notions have been bandied about by punters and critics alike in a bid to pin down Weatherall's role in music, yet none of them quite fit the bill.

Let’s go with ‘Pioneering DJ and producer’, Andrew Weatherall is a key figure in UK dance culture. He was there at the beginning of UK club culture in the late 80's.
After getting his start as a resident DJ at Islington’s seminal Shoom club night with Danny Rampling (and later becoming a fixture alongside young Paul Oakenfold at Future), Weatherall brought a strong DJ sensibility with him when he entered the realm of production in the early ‘90s. Creating classic works and remixes for New Order, Björk, My Bloody Valentine, and, most notably, Primal Scream, Weatherall has earned cult status as one of the most creative producers within the electronic (and acoustic) field.
Andrew will play a solo DJ set at the Black Box.

SAT 13 JUNE - PHIL KIERAN + PERC [SUPPORT] KOICHI

PHIL KIERAN
Belfast based Phil Kieran plys his DJ trade in the best clubs worldwide, over the past decade or so Phil has gained his reputation as one of the finest club DJs in the world. He brings the same drive, conscientiousness and desire for each set to be the very best to his DJing,
Phil has worked with many top musicians and DJs including Peter Hook, Gary Numan, Green Velvet, Speedy J and David Holmes, and is rightly proud of being hand picked by Martin Gore to remix Depeche Mode's Sweetest Perfection.
Although when people think of Phil they immediately think techno, his releases have been as diverse as his influences, and Phil has also worked on film scores, most notably with David Holmes for the soundtrack of Steven Soderbergh's ‘The Girlfriend Experience’.

PERC
Known as one of the most forward-thinking individuals in techno Perc (aka London based Ali Wells) fuses current sounds with his extensive knowledge of electronic music’s past to create something new & unique. A regular artist on such scene-leading labels as CLR, Kompakt, Drumcode, Stroboscopic Artefacts and Ovum as well as his own world-reknown Perc Trax imprint, Perc is as uncompromising as he is unique.
As a DJ, Perc has taken to the decks across the world in seminal clubs such like Berghain, Fabric, Cocoliche in Buenos Aires, Space Ibiza, Tresor, Unit in Tokyo and many more. His sound is a fusion of the cream of current techno mixed with choice selections from electronic music’s forefathers.
