Peterborough Jazz Club

The Peterborough Jazz Club was established in February 1992 by Laurie Jacobs with the aim of bringing the best Jazz musicians, both British and International, to Peterborough to enhance the cultural life of the City and to stimulate education, interest and creativity in jazz. The concerts are presented in The Peterborough Theatre and therefore the Club has the benefits of a first class venue with excellent facilities, within easy reach of all transport links. The Club is one of the few established jazz centres in the Eastern Region and has endeavoured to maintain concerts of the highest standard, achieving an excellent reputation on the national jazz scene.

The first concert held on 21st February 1992, featuring the great Ronnie Scott Sextet was a sell-out, which gave the Club a great kick-start. Since 1992, there have been regular concerts each year formerly taking place at The Great Northern Hotel, Peterborough and now at The Broadway Suite. The jazz music promoted is mainly mainstream/modern but does cater for a wide range of interests as can be seen by looking down the complete list of concerts. The gigs take place in a large music room (capacity 200) which has an excellent ambience, together with an excellent sound system. Drinks are available at the bar which is situated in the music room.

Over the past years, the Jazz Club has presented many of the great names in British Jazz - Peter King, Dick Morrissey, Alan Barnes, Matt Wates, Jim Mullen, Gerard Prescencer, Roy Williams, Tina May plus many more. We have also been privileged to see and hear many top USA/International musicians, namely Art Farmer, Charles McPherson, Bud Shank, Herb Geller, Bobby Shew, Chico Freeman, George Cables, Larry Adler, Ken Peplowski, Irene Reid, Gilad Atzmon plus many more!

The Peterborough Jazz Club has become an important venue nationally, with a reputation built on the quality of events promoted, together with an excellent sound system, as well as an appreciative audience. The Club has also given young jazz musicians an opportunity to perform in a concert setting as well as giving a platform for local musicians to play a support set before the main artists appear.
