Come and join us for this special night celebrating Silent Cinema and the genius of Buster Keaton.

The great stone-face Buster Keaton heads to the high seas for some incredibly clever slapstick comedy in this beloved farce. The just-out-of-college, effete son of a no-nonsense steamboat captain comes to visit his father whom he’s not seen since he was a child. After falling in love with the daughter of his father’s rival, Junior’s got to prove himself a worthy sailor, husband, and son-in-law. Buster Keaton’s ingenious knack for staging, timing, and physical comedy is in full steam in this ridiculous caper that remains achingly hilarious nearly 100 years later.

We are screening this Keaton classic with live accompaniment from the talented Michael Holmes.

The film is known for what may be Keaton's most famous film stunt: The facade of a house falls around him while he stands in the precise location of an open window to avoid being flattened.
In 2016, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

The film was included in the book 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die.

Many modern audiences may be most familiar with the film for its inspiring the title of Walt Disney's Steamboat Willie, the considered debut of Mickey Mouse.
